3.5-star is budget accommodation in New Zealand. This is still decent, but expect more basic furnishings and lower-quality amenities. Most 3.5-star accommodation is motel-style.
The most standard type of accommodation in New Zealand is 4-star. This can include hotel, motel, and apartment-style accommodation. Typically there is little difference in quality between these three types of accommodation at the 4-star level. We usually book apartment-style accommodation for families, as these offer individual bedrooms plus self-catering facilities.
4.5-star accommodation is more luxurious than 4-star but more affordable than 5-star. We recommend this for budget-conscious travellers who prefer accommodation on the nicer end.
Finally, 5-star is New Zealand’s luxury accommodation, including both hotels, luxury apartments, and luxury self-contained homes. New Zealand’s 5-star accommodation is among the world’s most affordable, especially for travellers from countries with favourable exchange rates, so please don’t hesitate to ask us for a 5-star holiday package quote if you’re curious.
