Day 1 Arrive Auckland

Arrive in Auckland – the “City of Sails” is New Zealand’s largest city and is bordered by two stunning harbours. Collect your rental car from the airport, explore the city, then make your way to your luxury inner–city accommodation.

In the evening experience a unique dining experience aboard a yacht in Auckland’s Waitemata Harbour. Savour stunning three course dinner prepared by one of Auckland’s top restaurants.

Day 2 Auckland

Today experience a Private Gourmet Food & Wine Tour on Waiheke Island. Your knowledgeable local guide will take you to three or more of the Island’s highly regarded vineyards, where you can taste their fine wines and learn about the unique region.

You will have the chance to enjoy succulent fresh oysters, award-winning olive oil and other locally-produced specialty foods, accompanied by wines from some of the Island’s top boutique vineyards. The guide will provide an entertaining and informative commentary along the way. Included is a fine dining experience a 2 course lunch and a glass of wine at one of the islands top restaurants. After lunch you will be returned to the ferry back to Auckland.

This evening, if you would like to dine with a spectacular view, you might like to visit the Sky Tower. You are spoilt for choice with three restaurants and cafés up the Sky Tower, including the Orbit 360 degree dining revolving restaurant; The Sugar Club, which is superbly chic and elegant; or the Sky Café, where you can relax with a coffee, cheese board or ice cream. You will have the opportunity to view the city from 328 metres high above street level and take in the beautiful views, up to 80 kilometres in every direction. Spot the key landmarks, including a number of volcanoes and historical locations within the greater Auckland area.

Day 3 Bay of Islands

Driving time Auckland to Bay of Islands 219 km / 136 miles, 3.5 hours

Drive to the Bay of Islands, renowned for its 144 islands and surreal maritime park, which is filled with an abundance of marine life including whales, penguins and dolphins.

Paihia is the perfect base if you would like to discover the coves and beaches of the Bay of Islands! Paihia is also of historic importance to New Zealand, as this is where the historic Treaty House on the Waitangi Treaty Grounds is located, which marks the beginning of New Zealand as a nation. Just west of Paihia is Haruru, where you’ll find an impressive waterfall and a boardwalk.

Day 4 Bay of Islands

Today, board the premium Discover the Bay Cruise and see for yourself the best of what the Bay of Islands has to offer. Journey to the Hole in the Rock and if weather permits, sail through it. See marine wildlife including dolphins and stop off at Otehei Bay on Urupukapuka Island to have a swim, go for a walk and relax.

Relax in the Bay of Islands for the rest of the day. You might like to enjoy the beautiful seaside walking tracks. The Paihia to Opua Walk (5.8 km one way) is a lovely, well-maintained coastal track from Paihia to the ferry at Opua. Offering beautiful views of the bay, sea birds and a passing vista of sea craft. In summer you may like to take a picnic lunch and enjoy a swim on the way.

Day 5 Coromandel Peninsula

Driving time Bay of Islands to Coromandel Peninsula 417 km / 259 miles, 6.5 hours

Renowned worldwide as a spectacular holiday destination, with warm white sandy beaches, misty rainforests and wilderness a-plenty, the Coromandel is the ideal place to relax and unwind. Dig your own hot pool at Hot Water Beach, explore the Coromandel Forest Park, or sea kayak the coastline, to explore beaches, volcanic reefs, caves and the world–famous Cathedral Cove!

Whitianga is the main settlement of Mercury Bay, an attractive township with a deep-water harbour. Whitianga has an excellent selection of restaurants and cafés, and the thriving retail community provides an interesting collection of outlets.

Stay 2 nights in Whitianga, Coromandel.

Day 6 Coromandel Peninsula

Today, join the Glass Bottom Boat for a unique boat cruise. Depart from the Whitianga Wharf to explore the breathtaking volcanic coastline, including the famous Cathedral Cove. See the stunning Champagne Bay, plus a range of blow holes and sea caves, including Orua’s Sea Cave, the second largest sea cave in New Zealand! See what lies above and below the surface in the Te Whanganui-A-Hei Marine Reserve and be amazed by all the marine life to be seen. You can choose your own level of fun. Either sit back and enjoy the amazing marine life through the glass boat, or take the plunge and snorkel amongst the fish. All equipment supplied and no experience necessary. Blue penguins are a common sight year-round.

Day 7 Rotorua

Driving time Coromandel Peninsula to Rotorua 231 km / 143 miles, 3.5 hours

Enjoy the scenic journey to Rotorua, distinguished by Māori culture and geothermal activity.

This diverse city will put on a display as you encounter dramatic geysers, bubbling mud pools, crystal-clear streams, magical forests and 18 beautiful fresh water lakes.

In the evening enjoy a delicious dinner at the top of the Skyline Gondola at the Stratosfare Restaurant. Feast on mouth–watering local seafood, carvery roast meats, and a selection of fillet steak, prawns and Moreton Bay bugs cooked to your liking on the grill. 

Stay 2 nights in Rotorua.

Day 8 Rotorua

Enjoy a short drive south to Taupo, rich in natural beauty with attractions such as the Huka Falls; incredible bush walks, relaxing boat cruises, bungy jumping and the famous Great Lake Hole-in-One-Golf Challenge.

The forests surrounding the lake offers hiking and mountain biking to suit all levels of experience. Pedal along the forested shores of Lake Taupo and admire the volcanic peaks of Tongariro National Park on the Great Lake Trail. The valley of Orakei Korako Cave and Thermal Park is a real hidden gem. Accessible only by a short ferry trip across Lake Ohakuri, admire the power and energy of Mother Nature in the geysers, hot springs and bubbling mud pools.

Day 10 Wellington
