Take a guided tour of New Zealand’s most active geothermal reserve, walking amongst erupting waters, an active mud volcano and land coral. You’ll soon discover the legends and myths behind Hell’s Gate.

Hell’s Gate Mud Bath and Spas

Hell’s Gate mud spa is a historic New Zealand experience. Open and clean your skin by lathering it in our unique mud, before exfoliating and cleansing with a soak in the Sulphur spa.

The Hell’s Gate Experience

Combine all three of Hell’s Gate’s most popular experiences with this package. Take part in the geothermal walk, before indulging in our geothermal mud baths and Sulphur spas.

Open from 8:30am – 10:00pm in the Summer (1^stOctober to the 31^stMarch), and 8:30am – 8:30pm in the Winter (1^stApril – 30^thSeptember).
Shuttle Bookings are Essential, please phone +64 (0)7 345 3151. Summer timetable is 8:50am, 12:50pm, 4:50pm and 6:50pm, and Winter timetable is 8:50am, 12:50pm and 3:50pm.
Swimwear and Towels can be hired at reception on arrival, subject to availability.
Not recommended for individuals with heart problems or other serious medical conditions. Pregnant travelers are recommended to seek prior advice from their doctor.
The minimum age for the mud bath is 2.5 years of age, whereas the Sulphur spa is 6 months.

Hell’s Gate is located just outside of Rotorua’s city centre. From the city simply travel east on State Highway 30. At approximately 5 minutes past the airport, you will turn right towards Whakatane. Hell’s Gate is 3kms down this road.
