Premier High-Country Fishing & Angling

  • There is superb trout and salmon fishing available in local high country lakes and rivers.
  • Access is often a problem; getting all your fishing gear etc to these wilderness places is important for your best high country fishing experience and Hanmer Springs Helicopters is able to give you that ease of access, and an experience in itself!
  • Hanmer Springs Helicopters offer a drop off option or another option where the helicopter remains with the clients all day so they can move around with ease.
  • Experienced fishing guides and equipment available upon request subject to availability.

Premier High-Country Hunting

  • The Hanmer Springs area is renowned for its high country hunting opportunities
  • Chamois, red deer, wild pigs, ducks, Canadian geese etc are all found in the region. Trophy hunting opportunities, particularly for chamois, but also red deer is excellent.
  • Available hunting blocks: There is a selection of Department of Conservation (DOC) blocks that offer a range of game species including red deer, chamois, wild pigs, and in some cases fishing and bird shooting. These blocks are accessible to other hunters and recreational users.
  • Hanmer Springs Helicopters has ready access to the Department of Conservation St James Station. The expansive station offers an excellent range of wild species including red deer, chamois, wild pigs, Canadian geese, ducks, trout and salmon. Hanmer Springs Helicopters can provide access to some of the stations most remote areas.
  • There is very good pig shooting on a selection of blocks, which they recommend using dogs for hunting them. Canadian geese and ducks are in abundance in the river basins and most blocks have huts or bivvies, or you can camp if preferred.
