Bluebridge Cook Strait Ferry is a remarkable journey between Wellington and Picton where the views are just the beginning.
The Cook Strait crossing, between the North and South Islands of New Zealand, is one of the world’s most picturesque ferry crossings. Bluebridge elevates the experience with fresh, made-to-order meals from the onboard chefs, free movies and Wi-Fi, children’s activities, and a range of comfortable, spacious passenger areas to choose from.
Looking for a more tailored experience? You can also book private ensuite cabins, family or dog-friendly cabins, or the premium 16+ Pōhutukawa Lounge for a truly memorable crossing.
Bluebridge operates two comfortable, modern ships – the Connemara and the Livia – with multiple departure times per day, including an overnight journey for those who are short on time.
The approximately 3.5-hour sailing takes in spectacular views of Wellington Harbour, with opportunities to view dolphins, whales, and other wildlife on the short stretch of open water between Wellington Heats and Tory Channel. As you enter the Marlborough Sounds, sail past dramatic rolling hills covered by lush native bush that stretches to the water’s edge.
Approximately 3.5 hours
$80 per passenger if you pre-book the lounge. If you book once you’re onboard it is $85 per person.
No. The Lounge is on Deck 6 of Connemara. You will need to be able to walk up/down two flights of stairs to get to and from the Lounge. Note: there is no lift or escalator from Deck 5 (main passenger deck) to Deck 6.
Yes, you’re welcome to bring your cat, dog, or other small pet with you. Pets must either stay in your vehicle, in one of our vehicle deck kennels ($15 one way) for the duration of the sailing, or if you’re travelling on the Connemara you can book one of the dog-friendly cabins.
When you check in, each child will be given a free activity pack with colouring pencils and an envelope that doubles as an activity book.
Both Bluebridge ferries have dedicated kid’s areas with some toys and games. The children’s areas include a TV screen playing family-friendly movies.
Private 4-bed family cabins are also available on both ships from $85 each way.
