Wanaka River Journeys

The Matukituki River, fed by Glaciers and surrounded by the peaks of Mount Aspiring National Park is one of New Zealand’s most powerful and pristine mountain rivers.

Wanaka River Journeys jet boat this fast flowing river past Lord of the Rings film locations, watched over by Mount Aspiring and Avalanche Glacier.

Fast, shallow water jet boating through stunning mountain scenery; learn from your guide of the forces that created this amazing landscape and enjoy a 50 minute walk into native beech forest to a waterfall.

Also available is an optional helicopter pick-up from the jet boat for a flight into the Glaciers.

Jet Boat / Wilderness walk

Depart from Downtown lake Wanaka by shuttle for a 20 minute scenic drive around the lake to the Matukituki River. Jet Boat upstream approximately 27k’s toward Mount Aspiring and the Glaciers before joining a wilderness walk into native beech forest. Return down river by jet boat.

Jet Boat / Wilderness Walk / Helicopter flight

Depart from Downtown lake Wanaka by shuttle for a 20 minute scenic drive around the lake to the Matukituki River. Jet Boat upriver for approximately 30 minutes toward Mount Aspiring and the Glaciers and then board a helicopter for a flight into the dramatic Avalanche Glacier, including a high altitude snow landing. Duration with helicopter is approximately 25 minutes. Return to the Valley and join a wilderness walk into native beech forest before returning down river by jet boat.
