Guided Walk on Ulva Island

  • Ulva Island is an idyllic, predator-free bird sanctuary for rare and endangered bird and plant species, a paradise for birds and bird lovers… only 266 hectares with great walking tracks, located in the southern-most island of New Zealand, Stewart Island.
  • Ulva and her team of local guides would love to share this experience with you… we will provide you with a unique experience, learning about native flora and fauna from a Maori and local Stewart Island perspective.
  • Discover our rare and endangered birds and plants at close quarters and take away the knowledge that you have glimpsed a part of a unique and primeval world.
  • Ulva Island is a world leader in showing conservation in action. The actions of the Department of Conservation on Ulva Island on Stewart Island are now showing up in initiatives world wide.

Birding Bonanza Full Day Package

  • Enjoy the above “Guided Walk on Ulva Island” from 8.30 am – 12 noon followed by Stewart Island coastline Pelagic birding 12 noon – 4.30 pm
  • Birding Bonanza package includes the charter vessel fee, all guiding fees and Department of Conservation fee

Departures Guided Walk on Ulva Island

Guided walks on Ulva Island leave from Golden Bay Wharf for the 7 min water taxi ride to Ulva Island bird sanctuary.

October – April:

  • 8.30 am returning 12 noon or 1.00 pm returning 4.30 pm

May – September:

  • 8.45 am returning 12.30 pm

Other Information

  • All trips are weather dependent
  • Group size: Maximum 12, but prefer smaller groups for a more personalised tour
  • Larger groups can be accommodated by arrangement
  • Please bring: Good walking shoes, a day pack containing warm waterproof jacket, water bottle, snacks and camera
