Prepare to be entertained and enlightened when you join our family for a half day of laughter and learning; full of the spirit of age old knowledge, yet entirely of today.

Kaikoura is an area of immense natural beauty, with dramatic land and seascapes; a place where man can feel insignificant in the presence of nature’s wonders.

Maori people have lived along this coastline for more than 800 years and hidden in the landscape are relics of the past and stories waiting to be told. Those people are our ancestors, these are our stories and Kaikoura is where our fires burn – we call that ‘Ahi Ka’.

Half Day Tour

Let us introduce you to this special place through our eyes, revealing to you secrets of the surroundings through out myths and legends.

• You will travel by small coach to sites important to us, where you’ll hear the voices of our ancestors echo through stories we tell today. During this part of the journey you will join our customs in a relaxed and fun way, learn a Maori greeting, try weaving with the harakeke (flax plant) and much more…

• Midway through we’ll stop for light refreshments and then it’s on to explore one of Kaikoura’s bush walkways where knowledgeable and passionate guides will share traditional uses of trees and plants as food and medicine.

• As your day concludes you will have gained a deep understanding of Maori people, our special way of life and spiritual connections to the natural world; as well as your own special memories to treasure and share with family and friends.

Location

Our half day tour operates ex Kaikoura and we offer a complimentary pickup from accommodation within a 5 kilometre radius from the town centre. Or if preferred we can meet at the Kaikoura i-Site Visitor centre.
