Challenge Wanaka 2011, 9 – 16 January 2011

The world’s most scenic iron distance triathlon, attracting top professional athletes from around the world and New Zealand to the spectacular alpine setting of Lake Wanaka.

Thousands of spectators line the route cheering on the hundreds of athletes as they take on the grueling 226km course which features a 3.8km swim, 180km bike ride and 42.2km run. The finish line is in the heart of the Lake Wanaka township and in true "Challenge" style, there’s a fun finish line party with fireworks to welcome the athletes home into the night.

The Challenge Wanaka Triathlon Festival includes the Puzzling World Junior Challenge Wanaka, Fun Run, Swim the Course, Tri NZ Contact Cup and the Lake Wanaka Half.

Challenge Wanaka is part of the global TEAMChallenge Series that includes events in Germany, France and Spain as well as New Zealand.

Waka Ama Sprint Nationals 2011, 17 January – 22 January 2011 (TBC)

This week close to 3000 Waka Ama (Outrigger Canoe) paddlers aged 7 to 70 will descend upon Lake Karapiro for what is the biggest Waka Ama event in the world.

320 races will take place in distances ranging from 250m to 1500m

Bay of Islands Sailing Week 2011, 18 January 2011

Annual Yacht Regatta in the Bay of Islands is held January each year.

The Bay of Islands Sailing Week 2010 was a huge success – now we are preparing for 2011.

Wings Over Wairarapa 2011, 21 Jan – 23 Jan 2011

With over 70 aircraft on display in air and on ground this is a truly exciting event. WWI & WWII military aircraft, rarely seen vintage aircraft, gliders, helicopters, home built aircraft, micro lights and gyro copters will all thrill the crowd with aerobatics, formations and displays.

102nd Annual Rotorua A & P Show, 29 – 30 January 2011

Agricultural & Pastoral show – held on one of NZ’s most picturesque showgrounds which is also the venue of the famous Agrodome and Adventure.

Featuring alpaca, equestrian, harness horse, miniature horse, heavy horse, donkey and mule events. Dairy, beef, Dexter & Highland cattle events, dairy and Boer goat events, black & coloured sheep event, shearing & axemens competitions.
