Challenge Wanaka 2011, 9 – 16 January 2011The world’s most scenic iron distance triathlon, attracting top professional athletes from around the world and New Zealand to the spectacular alpine setting of Lake Wanaka. Thousands of spectators line the route cheering on the hundreds of athletes as they take on the grueling 226km course which features a 3.8km swim, 180km bike ride and 42.2km run. The finish line is in the heart of the Lake Wanaka township and in true "Challenge" style, there’s a fun finish line party with fireworks to welcome the athletes home into the night. The Challenge Wanaka Triathlon Festival includes the Puzzling World Junior Challenge Wanaka, Fun Run, Swim the Course, Tri NZ Contact Cup and the Lake Wanaka Half. Challenge Wanaka is part of the global TEAMChallenge Series that includes events in Germany, France and Spain as well as New Zealand.
