Hells Gate Geothermal Park & Mud Spa

Stroll through our amazing, steaming, bubbling thermal park, see mud pools and hot springs and experience a taste of Maori culture! Visit our day spa, soak in hot pools, enjoy a Rotorua mud facial or a massage incorporating traditional Maori techniques.

Our interactive area provides visitors with a real ‘hands on’ cultural experience with such activities as Whakairo (wood carving), where you can carve your personal wood tile to take home under the supervision of our trained artists, traditional weaving using traditional plants e.g. flax, Maori costume dress-up photo opportunities, and tattoo (moko) face painting.

These interactive activities along with a tour of the thermal park and a mud bath and spa will most definitely leave you wanting more of this unique and wonderful culture!

Hells Gate Geothermal Park

Hell’s Gate Geothermal Reserve is set in 50 acres with a large variety of geothermal features. The walk takes approximately 45 minutes to an hour. Afterward, enjoy a relaxing sulphur spa overlooking the active geothermal reserve. Bookings not required.

Hells Gate Mud Bath & Spa

• The traditional mud bath experience, followed by the relaxing sulphur spa overlooking the geothermal reserve, 3 semi-private mud baths and 2 pure sulphurous spas.

Hells Gate Spa Facilities

• Portable lockers provided – free of charge, which you keep with you at all times

Hells Gate NZ Spa is where visitors can experience the unique geothermal mud and sulphurous waters in privacy as well as in a totally unique environment.

Miri Miri Massage – 1 Hour

Relaxing full body massage incorporating elements of Miri Miri which is the traditional Maori massage regime that has been practiced for hundreds of years, as well as special techniques that were used on site to ready our warriors for battle.

Add at least ½ hour in addition to your massage to allow for a sulphur spa prior to massage.

Hells Gate Facial (45 minutes)

A relaxing 45 minute facial, which utilise’s Hells Gate’s unique ‘Alite’ Mud Spa product range, made from the natural mud’s from the geothermal reserve. The facial involves a face and head massage after the mud product has been used to cleanse and purify the skin and pores. The process revitalises the skin through its gentle exfoliating and detoxifying action.

Mud Body Scrub (1.5 hours)

The mud body scrub is liberally smoothed over client’s body to cleanse, purify and refresh the client’s skin. This process reduces oils and dissolves unwanted skin residues. The body scrub is followed by the mud body mask, which provides a gentle exfoliation, refreshes the skin and leaves it looking full of vitality. Recommended Time: 2 hours (to allow for changing prior to and after treatment)

Location

State Highway 30 Tikitere, Rotorua. Travel east from Rotorua on SH 30. Approximately 5 minutes past airport turn right toward Whakatane and proceed 4kms to Hells Gate.
