Explore the Tasman Glacier Terminal Lake & Icebergs up close!

The only tour of its kind in New Zealand, and one of three in the world! Very few glaciers terminate into lakes and even fewer of these are accessible to the average person.

By using a boat Glacier Explorers gets you up close to towering ice cliffs and huge floating icebergs. The boats provide a safe way to unseen and inaccessible areas of New Zealand’s largest glacier. 

Being able to view, touch and taste 500 year old ice is a new experience for most people!

Activity Options

Glacier Explorers

• An up close amazing encounter with icebergs, on a glacial terminal lake
• Departing from Mount Cook Village outside The Hermitage Hotel
• The bus will take you on a pleasant trip to the Tasman Valley
• Enjoy an easy half an hour stroll through the National Park
• Then board your MAC boat, and enjoy the ever changing ice face of the Tasman Glacier icebergs on the Tasman Glacier Terminal Lake
• Commentary throughout the trip by your experienced guide

Departures

Glacier Explorers operates from late August to 31st May, (subject to weather and lake conditions permitting) departing 10.00 am and 2.00pm. From 15 November an extra trip will depart at 12 pm and from 27 December – 28 February the full timetable will be running with trips deaprting at 8.30 am, 10.00 am, 12.00 pm, 2.00 pm and 3.30 pm.

2.5 hours in total with 1 hour spent on the lake
